The Charleston RiverDogs, a Single A affiliate of Tampa Bay, play in Joseph P. Riley Stadium. "The Joe" opened in 1997 and is named for the current mayor of Charleston who has been mayor for 25 years. The stadium has seating for 5,800 fans. It is a nice stadium with one interesting feature called Shoeless Joe's Hill. This is a sandy area down the 1st base line, at the end of the seating area, that is named after Shoeless Joe Jackson, a South Carolina native. The stadium seats 5,541 and I would estimate 1,200 were in attendance tonight. The RiverDogs were playing the Capital City Bombers. The Bombers won 4-2 with the RiverDogs trying to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth. The box score was Bombers R-4, H-8, E-2 and RiverDogs R-2, H-8, E-1. The field lines are RF-337', CF-398', and LF-354'. There was a Bat Kid who was a girl. The mascots are Charlie and Chelsea. 2007 affiliate of New York Yankees. Charleston is a very scenic area to visit. At the time of the Revolutionary War Charleston and Boston were the largest towns in the colonies.

There are many things to see and we would recommend that you take a bus or carriage tour if you have a short time for your visit. There are several walking tours if you have more time. Many things to see are pre-Revolutionary War.

As the starting place of the Civil War a must see is Fort Sumter in the Charleston harbor. This is a two-hour tour, that includes the boat ride to the Fort. Fee

City Market has many things to look at and purchase if you are so inclined. One item only found in Charleston are Sweet Grass baskets.
