Birmingham Barons

The Birmingham Barons, a Double AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, were playing the Orlando Rays in Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, in Hoover, AL. This stadium, built in 1988, is a few miles south of Birmingham. It sits 10,800 with a total of 2,871 tonight. The level below the aisle has regular seats and above the aisle is bleacher with backs seating. You have to walk up stairs to get to the concourse behind the seating. The Barons won the game in the bottom of the 9th 5-4. The game was tied by the Rays in the 8th 4 to 4. The box score was Rays R-4, H-10, E-1 and the Barons R-5, H-5, E-2. The field lines are RF & LF-340' and CF-405'. The mascot is Babe Ruff. The little league team featured is the Leeds, AL Greenjackets sponsored by Walker Tire & Auto. Jim looked for Neal Cotts and found him in the stands charting pitches for tonight's game. Last night in Huntsville he pitched 6 shut-out innings and won his 4th game 2-0 and his third shut-out in four games pitched. His ERA is .86 at this time.
