Last night was our first rainout in Asheville, NC, so a change in schedule was necessary. We are dropping Memphis this year to try and stay on the schedule. Today we drove across the Smoky Mts. in a bad rainstorm. The weather in the area has been really bad, flood watches in this area and tornadoes to the west and south of us here in Kodak. The Tennessee Smokies, a Double A affiliate of St. Louis, play at Smokies Park. The ballpark opened in April 2000. It is a nice setting for baseball. It seats 6,000 in mainly seats with only 4 sections of bleachers with backs, 2 sections down each baseline. There is a grass berm around the whole outfield except in the middle of centerfield. There is a walkway completely around the outfield. On the 3rd base side is a full service restaurant called the Double-Play Cafe. At the main entrance of the park is a year round visitors center for this area of Tennessee. Today the game was scheduled for 11:30 am, but it did not start until shortly after 12 noon because of morning rain. The Smokies were playing the Greenville Braves. The Smokies led for the first three innings. In the 4th the Braves took the lead and didn't give it up. During the top of the sixth inning after scoring 4 runs and with no one out for the Braves the rain started coming down hard and the umpires called for the tarp. The rain continued and the game was called. The box score was Braves R-10, H-11, E-0 and Smokies R-5, H-6, E-3. The field lines are RF & LF-330' and CF-400'. Monday is $1 hot dogs. The $3 program is the best we have seen with lots of interesting information. The mascots are a brother-Slugger and sister-Diamond. 2007 affiliate of Chicago Cubs. New logo in 2015. 2021--Affiliated with the Chicago Cubs. Playing in the South League, North Division
